A 14-year Old

Cont. Chapter 1: My Normal Day

She banged on my door a moment later again. I slammed it open to see it was Rose and Jess. Their arms linked together, they were smiling hard. They told me that “guests are here”. I nodded and told them to make the “guests” wait until I got ready.  I closed the door and ran back to my closet, changed into jeans and a clean blue sweater. Then I stood in front of the dresser to straighten my hair and apply some perfume. I looked at myself to make sure I looked fresh, then ran downstairs. As I approached the hallway, I heard a two familiar voices, “Is that red-head coming or not?” I stopped and looked. My two very good friends were standing there, Crystal and Scott.
Scott’s family own a mobile company and he is one of the few richest kids in our school alongside me and Crystal. He has one elder brother who lives in the east and one younger sister. We became friends because our moms were roommates, once upon a time. He has brown hair and is slightly taller than the two of us.
Crystal is slightly different than him. Her full name is Crystal J. Franklin. She has one sister who was adopted in her family. Her family owns this big company regarding something of the Minister or whatever. My father has a big post in the same company. She has blonde hair that falls just a little beneath her shoulders. But it doesn’t always stay blonde, sometimes she dyes it. Currently she has dyed it a glossy magenta. I have to admit that it looks really creepy sometimes.
Anyway, when I heard them and came downstairs. “Hey, you two aren’t guests, are you?” I said narrowing my eyes at Rose and Jess, who both gave me a toothy grin. Scott laughed and said, “We knew you wouldn’t come down so easy. But anyway, Crystal here apparently has some amazing news.” He pointed to Crystal. I raised a questioning eyebrow. “C’mon, I wanted to show you.” I shrugged at Mom and she nodded so I went out. On the way to the garden I heard Dad, “Be back before dinner you.”
We walked to her house chatting. When we got there, Crystal gave us this really mysterious grin. I and Scott looked at each other. She opened the door. A golden spaniel jumped on her. I squealed and jumped back. Scott slowly fell on his knees to touch it. “Don’t be afraid. It doesn’t do anything,” Crystal laughed as the dog smothered her in kisses. I plucked up some courage and walked up to it and slowly held out a hand. It let me touch it and I ran my fingers in its golden fur.
A minute later we were sitting in Crystal’s room with the dog in Scott’s lap. I looked at Crystal and grinned, “OK you, start talking.” She laughed and ‘started talking’, “Dad was really happy because he got this really good order of something or whatever, but he made the mistake of asking us kids what we wanted as a treated. I came up with the idea that we ask for something that never runs out. So Jenny (her sister) simply went up and said we wanted a dog. It wasn’t pretty in the beginning. Mum was worried about its poop and how we could clean but she caved in. That was a week ago and after Dad got a hose attached on the porch he brought the dog too.”
“Name?” Scott asked.
“No we haven’t decided the name yet. And that is why I need your help. Wait, JENNY!!!! Come here for a minute,” she said. Jenny came up, her hair carefully tied in a classy ponytail. Jenny is the type of girl who blurts everything out. Not like spilling secrets or complaining, but like you will always know what she is thinking. We have gotten used to that because you she is on your side. Not bad for a 13-year old, though. “What the hell is wrong now?” she said. “We’re thinking of a good name,” Scott and I said together then took a moment to roll our eyes at each other. Hearing this jenny’s face lit up and she jumped on the bed takin the dog in her lap.
“So,” I said, “Maybe something cute like Boris or Scamper?”
“Or something cool like Killer?”
“No, something normal Jack or what about Jerry?”
“Jerry? Doesn’t suit him much. We could name him something funny like Cheese or Yoghurt maybe?”
“Goldilocks?”
“It’s not a girl, you loser.”
Suddenly Scott sprang up, “I have the most amazing name, JEANS.”
“No,” I sneered, “You want to name it after me?”
“Jeans is a great idea. OK its name is Jeans,” Crystal smiled. I put my hands on my waist and looked at Scott, “Are you making fun of my name?” “Chill,” he said giving me a fist bump on my shoulder.
We spent the rest of the evening in the porch trying to train it until it was a few minutes before dinner and both Scott and I had to dash back home. I arrived like one minute early when everything was ready at the table. Hannah never talked to me but Dad and I and Jess never hesitated in teasing her.
At night I texted Crystal like crazy before going to bed.
